  1. Flat iron your hair on a lower setting than you normally use
  2. Section your hair into two sections using your wide-toothed comb and use hair clips to secure
  3. Turn your flat iron on and set the temperature between 350 to 400 degrees. Use the lowest setting possible to style your hair, but make sure it is higher than the temperature that you used to straighten your hair.  Otherwise, your curls will not hold and will fall quickly
  4. Start with the right side
  5. Take a chunk of hair about two inches wide and use hair clips to keep the rest away and secure
  6. Comb hair from roots to ends using your rattail comb to get out any knots or kinks
  7. Clamp your flat iron where you’d like the curl to begin
  8. Slowly glide the flat iron down the length of the hair, turning it half a turn, a full turn, or a turn and a half.  Experiment to find what you like and are most comfortable with
  9. Use the least amount of tension necessary on your hair as you glide it through the iron
  10. Curl this side of your head all in the same direction
  11. Continue curling your hair until the entire right section is curled
  12. Tightly coil you hair in the same direction you curled it in until it starts to coil unto itself and creates a bun or bantu knot
  13. Secure your bun with a spin pin
  14. Repeat the steps above for the left side of your head
  15. Pro tip: Curl the left side in the opposite direction that you curled the right
  16. Finish with a few spritz of hair spray and/or shine spray (optional)
  17. Wrap a silk or satin scarf around your head or sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to lock the style into place

  1. Remove your silk or satin scarf if used
  2. Carefully unravel your buns
  3. Finger comb your hair to style
  4. Finish with a few spritz of shine spray (optional)

  1. Finger comb your hair to detangle.  If your hair gets really tangled, used a wide-toothed comb instead
  2. Put your hair into two bantu knots and secure using your spin pins
  3. Place your silk or satin scarf over your head or sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase

Note: Your styling products should contain either no silicones or water-soluble silicones to prevent buildup and rinse out of your hair easily.
